layoutandvisibleLayoutcarry whatever tmux hands this connection: on 3.8+ that is JSON, the same wire form a snapshot'swindow_layoutreports (the connection requests it on attach); before 3.8 tmux has only the classic layout string, on both sides. Either is an opaque token to compare for equality, not a grammar to parse.
